Denise Massman

Siena College
Denise R. Massman, MFA (Costume Designer) has been specializing in all aspects of theatrical design for over 40 years. Her latest work has been for a 10-episode, 10 hour telenovela style “soap opera” in Norway. This project has been gathering steam since 2019. The challenge has been communication with a diverse group of artists - a playwright from Argentina, a director from Italy and actors from Scandinavian. It is about the economic collapse in Argentina in 2012. In 2021 she designed costumes for Shakespeare's Cymbeline for Montana Shakespeare in the Parks. This was part of a global project called Cymbeline Anthropocene that addresses the contemporary ecological crisis through Shakespeare’s plays. Regionally, her last project was An Iliad for Ancram Opera House. This summer she curated and wrote text for a traveling exhibit of costumes in the western region of the United States for Humanities Montana. She designs sets and costumes and teaches theater design at Siena College.
