“Dzieci is a wonderful example of the spiritual intensity possible when theatre engages the age-old mysteries of faith and the human experience. We at the Cathedral found the very stones of our monumental building coming alive through their presence.” ~ QUOTE FROM: Canon Tom Miller, Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, New York City ~ PROPOSAL: Dzieci is an experimental theatre company, rooted in the lineage of Jerzy Grotowsky and The Polish Theatre Laboratory, and committed to the search for the sacred through the medium of art. While not beholden to any specific religious practice, in every work, Dzieci seeks a deeper spiritual commonality, bringing the power of theater into the realm of sacred ritual. Fools Mass, our signature piece now in its 15th season, adheres to the basic ritual of the Catholic Mass, while utilizing this structure to explore the potential for personal transformation and self-awareness. The line between participant and observer is blurred, allowing the experience to become shared by the entire community. “I find Fools Mass such a rich exploration of human nature and our spiritual search. There is the constant flow between control and chaos, aloneness and togetherness, creation and destruction, the absurdly mundane and transcendent simplicity. The search for true contact without an intermediary leads us into a true spiritual connection within and between one another. It's a rich experience worthy of multiple viewings.” QUOTE FROM: Matthew Purdon on Fools Mass 2013 Dzieci proposes a series of engagements, including seminars, workshops for people to explore with the company in an experiential setting, and a performance of Fools Mass.
